Harvest Town Yau Fic Chapter 1

Told from the perspective of the MC in their youth (not time traveling). 

A glimmer shines into the eyes of a sleeping girl by the stream. She knows she is supposed to be fixing the farm but figures any day is a good day to relax. "Sleeping again? Won't you ever learn to take better care of your Grandpa's farm?" An old man says as he hobbles towards her with his cane. Clarissa opens just one of her bright green eyes to look at him. "I still haven't decided if I want to stay here, why would I put in all that work if Im just going to go to the city?" She replies with a big yawn and stretch. "Surely there must be something you like about this town?" He says, peering down at her from underneath his hat. "Hmph like what? The same old people, same old shops, and a run down factory?" The old man winces at Clarissa's words. "Ah Im sorry Mayor, I got into another fight with that arrogant doctor yesterday. He called me a waste of time and told me to get out of his way when all I said was hello! Can you believe that guy? He ticks me off." Clarissa grumbles. The Mayor chuckles, "You two have always been at odds and ends. Lee Yau may have some quirks but he has done a fine job taking care of everyone, especially for his first year officially as the town doctor. He even takes the time to check on this old man every sunday, I keep telling him Im as fit as a whistle but he insists on it." Clarissa stands up and rests her back against the bark of the oak tree, a frown clearly shown on her face. She takes her little white calico off her head carefully so he won't pull on her auburn curls or bow and holds him against her chest. "He only does that because his dad makes him. I don't know how two amazingly sweet people could create two rotten, egotistical boys. Ugh. Whatever, fine I'll start working as long as you stop talking about him. Come on Peppe let's go." She says as she places the cat Peppe back on top of her head. The Mayor's eyes twinkle as she walks to the nearest bunch of weeds and starts hacking them down with a sickle.

"Hurry!! This way!!!!" A little girl cries, her blond hair flowing behind as she runs to the Manor's "farm". A young man in a long white coat follows after her. "She's over here!!!!!" Peach passes by some broken down fence posts and scattered tree stumps to a passed out Clarissa. Lee Yau kneels down beside her and places his stethoscope to her heart. "Her heart beat is frantic and she is covered in sweat. Probably overworked herself since she hasn't done anything in so long." He snorts. Carefully he places his arm under her arm and legs, lifting her slowly off the ground. Surprisingly he found her easy to carry back to the clinic, and gently places her on the patient bed near the front desk. "Oh my.... that poor sweetheart, she must have been working real hard! Good thing the Mayor stopped by earlier and warned us that something like this might happen." Ching whispers. "Grandpa sent me there to check on her too! He was really worried when he got home." Peace exclaims. "Shhhhh! Quiet! Everyone get out!" proclaims the young doctor with a hushed voice. The little girl scrambles out the door and his mother chuckles as she makes her way back to her room. His shoulders relax and a sigh of relief escapes his lips. Peace, quiet, serenity in silence. He walks over to the sink and wets a towel with cold water before folding it and walking back to his patient. His fingers lightly brush some locks of red hair out of Clarissa's face and he lays the cold folded towel on her forehead. A smirk creeps across his face while looking down at the girl who called him a smug, no good brat just yesterday. He covers her with a blanket before heading back to his desk to make notes on his computer. Light clacking of computer keys can be heard throughout the night until a notification pops up on his screen that it is time to close the clinic. He gets up and checks in on his patient once more before turning off the lights and heading back to his room.
