Yau Fic Chapter 15

Clarissa walks back to the patient bed and sits down in a daze. (What was that? I didn't even think Lee Yau was capable of that! He is always so disinterested in people. I mean ya there was that weird moment in front of his brother's house but it's not like there was anything behind that, I could tell it was just curiosity but this.... this felt different. He.... if I had continued, would he have stopped?) She shivered for a moment. "Clarissa." (That look in his eyes... Ive never seen that before...) "Clarissa?" Her hand goes up and her thumb traces her lips. (What does it feel like? ......what would he feel like...?) A sigh is barely heard and Lee Wah walks back to his desk. After a few minutes Lee Yau walks out and up to a still lost in thought Clarissa. When she doesn't even register he is there he chuckles and walks over to the desk, grabbing out a notepad. "She's been sitting like that since she came back out. Is everything alright?" Lee Wah asks his son. Yau smiles arrogantly, "It was just some payback, she's fine. She learned a well needed lesson." He grabs the bandages Lee Wah had placed on the desk and sets everything down on the patient bed. Delicately he takes a hold of the hand resting on Clarissa's lips and pulls her arm out to unwrap the bandages. Her eyes dilate and register him in front of her, "Lee Yau, when did you come out?" He chuckles and whispers, "Ive been out here for a few minutes now, it seems you've been too preoccupied with my bed to notice." Her face turns red but she doesnt even try to protest or make any witty comebacks so he smiles as he unwraps all of her bandages and takes off her bandaids. "Your small cuts have basically healed. I am going to get some antiseptic for the larger ones." He says as he stands up and walks over to the shelf of tonics. He grabs the antiseptic, some cotton puffs, and his hand pauses over the cicatrization powder, he picks it up as well and heads back to the bed. Applying the antiseptic onto the cotton puffs, he gently dabs the wound on her arm and blows on it creating a cooling sensation on her skin. He places a small amount of cicatrization powder on cotton puff and rubs it slowly on her wound. "What is that?" Clarissa asks. "Cicatrization powder, it will help your wounds close faster and heal cleaner." Lee Yau responds while moving on to the wound on her leg. "Cicatrization powder? That isnt necessary for such small cuts Yau, they should heal sufficiently on their own. You are being overly cautious." Lee Wah states from the desk. Lee Yau ignores him and continues addressing each wound with care before wrapping them with clean bandages. As he finishes up Pong Ching walks out of the room and into the kitchen in routine, she opens up a cabinet and looks around. "Dear have you seen our eggs? I had a few saved yesterday for breakfast this morning." Ching calls over to Lee Wah. [Note Farm fresh eggs do not require refrigeration, they stay fresh for 2 weeks unrefrigerated.] "I apologize, I cooked them late last night. Justin threw chicken droppings in the Hot Pot last night so I did not eat any. Clarissa had some eggs as well as soon as we got back from the Hot Pot." Lee Yau responds before his father can speak. Ching smiles, "No worries dear, Ill go to the Cruz Ranch to get some more after my morning workout. Unless... Clarissa dear do you have chickens? Your farm is much closer, it would be nice if this old woman didn't have to walk so far." Ching asks. (Chickens? I hadn't even thought about getting any chickens. I guess I haven't really made any upgrades to the farm either. Maybe I should stop at the Carpenter's after I feed Peppe?) "I don't have any yet but it might be a good idea to get some. As soon as I have them I will bring some by. Yau asked for more bentos anyway." Ching smiles at Clarissa's words. "It is so nice to see you getting along. Since you will be stopping by Uncle Steve's anyway, will you keep an eye out for blueberries? There is a sauce I love to make. Yau perhaps you should go with her too before going to the Mayor's. That is an awful lot of walking, she just got hurt yesterday I would hate to see her fall over and not be able to get back. Then you can grab some eggs on the way back home from the Mayor's while I am at Church." Pong Ching says with a particular smile. Lee Yau sighs and nods, he grabs Clarissa's hand and helps her to her feet. "Come on let's go." She looks down nervously, "that's ok, I should be just fine I really dont need your help. Uncle Steve isn't that far." (Plus I still havent ordered decorations... last thing I need is for you to make comments about my room after your teasing this morning and throwing up on your shoes last night. A girl can only handle so much embarrassment.) "Dont be absurd. If you fall there wont be anyone to help you back to the Clinic. Peter spends the whole day at the Church with my mom, Julia is out of town, and their kids barely leave the Ranch. Lulu might spot you but who knows if she would even help you up." She hesitates at his response. "Ok ok I see your point, come on let's go."

"I didn't know that your mom was a Christian." Clarissa says to Lee Yau as they walk to her Manor. "She is dedicated, every Sunday she sits up at the old Temple praying to God. She complains about being an old woman but she never fails to hike up the mountain. Such ridiculousness, if God existed I wouldn't have any patients." Yau says sternly. "Why would you say that?" She asks confusedly. "No one would get hurt. What kind of God who is supposedly all powerful, all knowing, and Good would allow people to get hurt or hurt eachother, wars, sickness, and disease?" He scoffs. ".....I dont know a lot about the Bible but Im pretty sure that question is answered in the first few chapters. When God created people He gave them power and authority over the entire earth and every life in it. When He created Adam and Eve it says He created them both in His image, to be exactly like Him. But with the authority and free will He gave them they chose to disobey Him and eat from a Tree that gave them the knowledge of what evil was. He warned them that the fruit of that tree would bring them death but they didnt listen, they chose to listen to His enemy instead. God threw them out before they could eat from the Tree of Life to become immortal, maybe He thought that they would cause a lot of destruction. The man's son was so evil he even killed his brother out of petty jealousy.... Im sure God stopped them from being immortal so that men born like him would not torment others forever." They stopped in front of Clarissa's house door. "Why create that tree in the first place then? And why punish good people then?" Lee Yau questions. "So that they have free will. I dont think God wanted to force them to have to follow Him. You can tell He hates evil though, He attacks evil all the time in different ways. As for good people.... define good. I dont know about you but I definitely haven't done only good things in my life. Ive lied, Ive hurt people, Ive destroyed things.... What just because someone isn't as bad as someone else that makes them 'good'? That's a crappy definition of goodness then. I think that's why God had to sent Jesus, people before Jesus were just becoming too evil and pulling further and further away from God. He kinda gave them new a choice you know? The Bible says God will forgive anyone that chooses to believe in His Son because He loves them and that anyone who chooses His Son will be given eternal life, they'll be able to enter God's Kingdom. Ive been reading a little bit about it lately. Jesus said whoever sees Him sees God. If you look at how Jesus was on earth... He was very loving and forgiving towards even those that belittled Him. He genuinely just wanted to help everyone, but He also spoke out when He knew that were doing something evil and told them they should stop. He never forced them though, He just taught them about God and how to do good things instead of bad..." Clarissa looks down uncomfortably, "I dont know He doesnt seem so bad. Even in the Old Testament God only went against people who did evil things. It's His enemy that steals, kills, and destroys 'good' people." MEOOOOOOOOOOW!!!! MEROOOOOOWWWW!!! Clawing sounds are heard on the other side of the door. "Oh! Peppe! Poor baby, Im sorry!" Clarissa cries out, she opens the door and a cat pops out. She picks up the calico and snuggles him before walking into the bedroom. "Alright let's get you some food!! It's a good thing that I put out extras yesterday since I didnt know when I would be home. And guess what? You can come with this time, we are just heading to Uncle Steve's so it is nice and safe." She chirps as she sets Peppe down and pours out some food into his bowl. "You're talking to a cat?" Lee Yau asks with amusement as he walks into the house. She crouches down and pets the cat chowing down on its food, "Why not? Animals have intelligence, he understands my commands and reacts to things I say. Why wouldn't I talk to him?" He walks over to the cat, crouches down, and pokes it studying its movements, "If it has any intelligence it would be the equivalent of a baby or small child." Clarissa grabs his hand and pulls it away from the cat, "You shouldn't do that, cats dont like to be poked and even though Peppe is pretty laid back he might still bite you. As for what you said, I hope as a child and even as a baby your parents spoke to you." He smirks, "as a child my mother was reading me Biology, Medical, and Chemistry books, she was preparing me for a long time to take over the Clinic. She was much more lax with Yeung...." he responds quietly. Clarissa studies his face for a moment, both solemnity and pride readily visible as his eyes lose focus on the world around him. (What do I say to that? Things must have been harder on him than I thought, I always looked at him as if he was an arrogant, spoiled brat but spending time with him... he is much more disciplined than I thought. He lacks social and emotional maturity, but when it comes to work he is strong, focused, and effective. When he interacts with a patient he is almost a different person, though his arrogance and sarcasm still come through.) "Yau, we haven't eaten anything today. Would you like an omelet? I bought some eggs from the marketplace the other day and I have some Chili Peppers, Onions, and Tomatoes." She says as she plays with his fingers and pulls his attention to her. His face lights up like a child with a wide smile without thinking, "Can you make extras too so I can some some with me for lunch?" She chuckles and looks at him fondly, "You are all about food." He immediately becomes reserved again, covering his mouth and looking away. "Ah, dont do that. Your smile is so nice Yau-kun~ It's so cute that it even makes a conceited, condescending snob like you look attractive." His eyebrows knit together again as her looks back at her with pure displeasure, "I am always attractive, clearly the most attractive man in town that is just fact. I dont appreciate being called a snob." She rubs inbetween his eyebrows with a little bit of force, "Not with this bad attitude your not. Look at the scary faces you make! Even expressionless Chris looks better than you with that scowl!" He stands up and stomps towards the door, "Forget it, I don't need your food!" She hurries over and wraps her arms around his chest as he continues to try to walk through the door, "Aww come on Yau-kun~ I only say it because I care~♡ You know how handsome you are~♡  Even my heart was pounding when you took off your shirt this morning~♡" He halts and tenses up in her grasp, "How handsome?" he asks with interest. She turns him around and holds his face in her hands, "With this sharp face, those dark amethyst eyes, and that six pack?  You're practically edible. Much more than Duke for sure and he's a rock star playboy." A smug and satisfied look appears on his face and his body relaxes, "You aren't just humoring me? That's a high level of flattery." Clarissa rolls her eyes and crosses her hands over her chest, "Dude I wish I was just humoring you, the look on your face right now makes me want to puke." Confusion shows on his face for a moment but after a while he looks content, "Edible, hmm... heh heh" he mumbles with a smirk. She tussles his hair lightly, "hey egomaniac! Stop letting it go to your head!" He just smiles back in response, still too content with her earlier remark. "Ugh whatever I am going to start cooking. Go sit down, I still dont have a couch yet so just relax on the bed until I am done." She says as she walks off to make food. He sits down at the foot of her bed, picking up the book left on it and flipping through it with disinterest. A particular part catches his eye and he ponders on it: God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent His one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him. We love because He first loved us.
